Lenses

An important metaphor for me over the last year has been that of God’s work in my life being like a new set of lenses with which to see the world. It seems my lenses are always changing, and the more they change, the more I am aware of their need for change. I am learning to repent of my eyes and the way I see things. I am learning the extent to which followers of Jesus are to “see things upside down” (to borrow a phrase from Derek Webb).

The gospel of Jesus confronts the way I see the world-economics, politics, justice, equality, even how I view myself, my time and resources. As I live in a democracy with a president and a free-market economy; where the name of the game is fend for yourself, and you’re judged on your ability to do so, the gospel shows me a new reality-a Kingdom with a King where love is the only law. It’s these kingdom lenses I want to see through. Just a glimpse into this reality and I am challenged and changed by what I see. I hope to use this blog space to share what I’m learning. May God continue to renew our vision of his Kingdom.
